Anaheim Hills Golf Course

If you are a golf enthusiast taking the family to play at Disneyland, you owe it to yourself to take the time to play a round of golf at the Anaheim Hills Golf Course. Just 25 minutes from the enchantment of the Magic Kingdom and easily accessible from the Artesia-Riverside Freeway, you will be enchanted by "The Hills."

To get your swing ready for the challenge of the course, you can warm up at the 40 tee double deck driving range. Once you've hit a bucket of balls (available in a variety of sizes), be sure to take some time practicing on the large putting green.

Once you are loosened up and ready to go, regardless of your age or golf ability, you will have an excellent experience at this public course owned by the city of Anaheim. Designed by Richard Bigler (credited with the design of a number of California's well known golf courses), this 6,245 yard, eighteen hole course that opened in 1972 is well known for its hilly terrain.

In addition to adding to the challenge, these hills have the added benefit of providing breathtaking views. Also adding to the beauty of this course, mature oaks and sycamore trees line the fairways. In addition to the hills and valleys, a natural stream flows through the course.

While the trees and water provide some natural obstacles, additional challenges come in the shape of close boundary lines and well placed bunkers and water hazards. The greens can be challenging as many of them are small. In particular, the green of the Par 3 (Championship Tee, 254 yards; Regular Tee, 245 yards; and, by the scorecard, Ladies' Tee, 183 yards) number five hole is small enough that it will not hold a long running shot.

Also challenging is the number 13 hole. It to is a par 3, measuring 207 yards to a green that is framed by three sand bunkers at the front, and water behind, to the left and to the right.

The number 5, however, is not the shortest hole on this course. The 6,245 yard champion length par 71 course is comprised of distances of a short 142 yards to a long hole 501 yards. Alternately, the regular tee comes in at 6,005 yards and the ladies' tee completes with 5,361 yards covered with a par of 72.

After your round, head over to the new 30,000 square foot clubhouse. There, you'll be able to grab a bite to eat at the Tournaments bar and grill. If the mood strikes, you'll also be able to upgrade your gear with a stop at the expanded PGA pro shop.

Of course, the Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills is not just for setting up your golf outings. The space was designed with restaurant, banquet and convention facilities, and offers spectacular panoramic views of the golf course.

The outside of the clubhouse is also a sight to behold. It was built in a Mediterranean style, and takes advantage of its surroundings.

While the grandeur of The Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills may imply a high price, the greens fees at the Hills remain quite affordable, even on the weekends.

With the Anaheim Hills Golf Course providing an affordable challenge to all golfers, it is well worth the trip.
