Dad Miller Golf Course
Published On: Oct 24, 2006Are you planning to take your young golfer to Anaheim to visit the legendary mouse? If so, be sure that you make the time to take him or her to the Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim. You and your youngster will be inspired by the Dad Miller with its history as Tiger Woods' home course when he was in high school.
The course - originally called the Anaheim Municipal Golf Course - became known as Dad Miller in 1970 when Henry George "Dad" Miller had a hole-in-one on the eleventh hole when he was 93. A picture of him, taken at a tournament in his honor on his 100th birthday, still hangs in the clubhouse.
History aside, this 18-hole public course is owned by the City of Anaheim. It was built in 1961, and opened in 1963. The course has a pleasant and even pace. Its flat terrain and mature trees make it a favorite among walkers.
Those features also make this a fantastic course for beginning and intermediate golfers. However, more experienced golfers will also find it a pleasant and challenging course.
What could be better than looking forward to a great round of golf? How about an opening birdie? The first hole, a par 4, with its generous fairway creates that opportunity.
And it just gets better from there. After two doglegs, the fourth hole, a 259-yard par four, offers another enticing possibility for a birdie.
As you move on through the course, you will realize that not everything is that easy - especially once you make it to the par 5 number 8. With trees lining the right hand side of the fairway and and out of bounds fence to the left, this hole plays as if it is even longer than its listed 510 yards.
And the eighth hole is not the longest on the course. That honor goes to the 614 yard number 17 that is among the longest par 5s in California. With trees to both the left and right of the fairway, this long fairway challenges you to keep your shot center.
To practice for that, you might want to check out the Dad Miller's lighted driving range. With both grass and artificial tee areas, sand hazards, putting greens and a chipping area, the range provides a chance for everyone to improve their game.
If all this golf is making you hungry, make sure you stop in the Greenside Cafe. Open every day, they offer breakfast and lunch items, as well as on the go snacks. If you want to unwind with a drink after your round, you can at the cafe's fully stocked bar.
Other amenities at the course include an extensive pro shop with a wide variety of clubs, bags, shoes, accessories and more.
And, as an added benefit, the course is located near both the Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland, making it a convenient diversion from your trip.
By playing the Dad Miller, you'll be playing on a course rich in golf history. You'll also be playing a course that is will continue contributing to the sport. The Dad Miller is also home to the Tiger Woods Learning Center, where kids are inspired to reach for their dreams.
A round of golf at the Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim is sure to be a memorable part of your family vacation.
