Disneyland Resort

Owned and operated by the Walt Disney Company, Disneyland Resort at Anaheim, California, is a theme park and major recreational area. The area includes two theme parks, a shopping and entertainment area, and three hotels.

Disney's Grand California Hotel & Spa is located at 1600 South Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, California 92803. The hotel has its own park entrance and stands next to the theme areas of Disney's California Adventure and Downtown Disney. It is the only hotel in the Disneyland Resort to have been built and operated originally by The Walt Disney Company.

The hotel's architect was Peter Dominick. The exterior architectural elements of the hotel with its 750 rooms is in the Craftsman style, encompassing sweeping wide roofs, stocky and sturdy braces, and jutting out beams with earthy, nature-evoking colors.

The Craftsman motif is followed inside, but on a grander scale. The central lobby is seriously impressive. It has huge curving overhead beams. At ground level there is an immense fireplace with rocking chairs in front for the ultimate in comfort. And if the hotel's reception hall reminds you of the Swedenborgian Church in San Francisco, it is simply because that is what it is modelled on.

The Disneyland Hotel is located at 1150 Magic Way, Anaheim, California 92802. It has operated there since the opening of Disneyland Park in 1955, and was therefore the first hotel to be built at Disneyland Resort. Marina, Sierra, and Bonita make up the three guest room towers of Disneyland Hotel. A short walk away is the Downtown Disney Monorail Station bound for Tomorrowland, and close by is also a special entrance into Disney's California Adventure.

The hotel has 990 guestrooms, including 60 suites. Outside in the grounds you can find koi ponds, gazebos, a sandy beach by a secluded pool, and the unique Never Land pool complex. The complex has its own pirate ship and water slide, not to mention a crocodile constantly lying in wait for Captain Hook.

Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is located at 1717 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, California 92802. It has over 30,000 square feet of space, and has 489 rooms with 29 of them suites. Many of the rooms overlook the Paradise Pier waterfront area of Disney's California Adventure Park, hence its current name. The Disneyland Resort hotel started out in 1984 as the Emerald Hotel. Later it was known as the Pan Pacific Hotel. It was purchased by Disney in December of 1995 and renamed to the Disneyland Pacific Hotel. Finally, in December of 2000 the hotel, after considerable remodelling, was given a new lease of life under its current name.

While it is normally the practice in the west to skip the 13th floor, having the 12th floor followed by the 14th floor, Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel is one of the few buildings in the western hemisphere that actually has a 13th floor. This is because the original owners were Japanese. In eastern culture 13 is not considered unlucky, so they saw no reason to skip a floor number.
